OMA Critical Illness Insurance coverage includes:
Tax-free lump sum benefits
A tax-free lump sum payment of up to $250,000 will be paid out after subject to conditions, exclusions and surviving a diagnosis of one of the 25 covered conditions.
Freedom and flexibility
Use funds as you see fit for out-of-country treatment, travel and expenses, experimental treatment, medical equipment and home modification, private nursing or personal support worker, spouse’s1 reduced or lost income, mortgage or other debts or any other purpose.
Eligibility
OMA Group Critical Illness Insurance is available exclusively to members of the OMA or an Atlantic medical association/society and their spouse's1 who are under the age of 652 and reside in Canada (excluding Quebec).

Frequently asked questions
For Critical Illness insurance amounts issued without evidence of insurability, no benefit will be paid for any critical illness that occurs within 24 months of your start date of coverage, and that resulted from any injury, sickness or medical condition (whether they were diagnosed) for which you had signs, symptoms, consulted a physician or other health-care practitioner or was provided any health-related care, advice or treatment, or that a reasonably prudent person with such injury, sickness or medical condition would have consulted a physician or any other health-care practitioner, during the 24 months prior to the start date of your coverage.
A separate pre-existing condition limitation period will apply to each amount issued without evidence of insurability.

If you are not satisfied with your coverage, simply return your insurance certificate to Manulife within 30 days of receiving it, and any premiums paid for the coverage will be promptly refunded.3
1 “Spouse” means a member’s spouse by marriage or under any other formal union recognized by law, who is publicly represented as the member’s spouse. Only one person at a time can be covered as the member’s spouse under this policy. Spouses are eligible to buy insurance without requiring member to be insured. If your spouse is also a physician, you may not apply for more than $250,000 as a physician or spouse on each other’s application.
2 Critical Illness insurance is only available to members under age 65. Critical Illness Insurance is available to members age 65 and over only when renewing coverage, which ends at age 70.
3 The insured may, within thirty (30) days after receiving this policy, return it to the address below for cancellation. The policy will be considered never to have come into effect and any premium paid up to the end of the 30-day examination period will be refunded, less any claims paid. Where claims paid exceed premiums, the difference must be repaid to the insurer immediately. This right of cancellation expires thirty (30) days after the policy is received by the insured and does not apply to any reissued, substituted or consolidated policy continuing coverage that commenced under a previously issued policy. The rights of any beneficiary under the policy are subject to this right of cancellation.
